Why is My Electric Bill Changing?

California Assembly Bill 205 requires electric utilities to adjust the way electric customers are billed in order to make it more affordable to use electric technologies and clean energy.

What is Changing on the Bill?

This is not a new fee or tax, but rather a change in how electric bills are structured. The following changes will automatically be applied to the customer's bill.

  1. Base Services Charge: This charge will replace the current Basic Charge to cover essential costs to maintain the infrastructure which keeps homes connected to the electric grid. Below are the approximate Base Services Charge Amounts: Customers not enrolled in CARE, FERA, or living in a qualified Deed-Restricted Affordable Housing (DRAH) - $24 per month FERA customers and customers living in qualified DRAH housing - $12 per month CARE customers - $6 per month

  2. Lower Electricity Costs for Energy Delivery: Customers may see total electricity prices lowered by approximately 10% per kilowatt hour
