President of California Community Builders (CCB)
John C Gamboa serves as the President of California Community Builders (CCB). California Community Builders is a nonprofit organization that strives to close the wealth gap for communities of color through home ownership. This is accomplished through The Two Hundred which is a coalition of leaders and advocates from different organizations all partnering together to address affordable home ownership.
John serves as Vice-Chair of The Two Hundred. CCB has pursued the primary goal to develop policy alternatives out of the direct experience of developing for-sale housing for very-low and low-income families in the Central Valley.
The Two Hundred has also filed a civil rights lawsuit against the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to stop implementation of their scoping plan. The scoping plan has four measures that expand the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and make it even more expensive to build homes.
This plan disproportionately impacts communities of color. John is also the former Executive Director of the Greenlining Institute, has a diverse experience serving in academia, the private sector and the nonprofit sector. Prior to the Greenlining Institute, he was Executive Director of Latino Issues Forum, Communications Manager at U.C. Berkeley, Executive Director of Project Participar, a citizenship program, and Marketing and Advertising Manager at Pacific Bell. He has been active in combating redlining and in providing a voice for the poor and underserved in insurance, philanthropy, banking, housing, energy, higher education and telecommunications issues.
